University of Wisconsin, Whitewater - UWW Overview

  About Greek Life at UWW

UW-Whitewater is a mid-size regional university in southeastern Wisconsin, part of the UW System, and its Greek community reflects that scale — present and active, but not the kind of system that dominates the whole campus experience.

On the fraternity side, there are around a dozen chapters operating through IFC, and the sorority side runs through Panhellenic with a handful of chapters. The system also includes NPHC organizations — Alpha Phi Alpha, Omega Psi Phi, Kappa Alpha Psi, Phi Beta Sigma, Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta — which are a meaningful part of the Greek presence on campus. That mix of IFC, Panhellenic, and NPHC chapters gives the overall community some real variety in terms of what different organizations are about and how they operate.

UWW doesn't have a traditional Greek Row, and most chapters don't have large dedicated houses the way you'd see at a Big Ten school. Social events and chapter life tend to happen through rented spaces, campus facilities, and off-campus locations. It's a more low-key setup compared to flagship schools, but chapters still put together philanthropy events, formals, and community service activities throughout the year.

Rush and recruitment here are more relaxed than at a big state school. IFC recruitment is informal by nature, so you'll mostly connect with fraternities through events, mutual friends, or just hanging around. Panhellenic sororities run a more structured recruitment process in the fall. Either way, the process tends to be more personal and less overwhelming than what you'd find at a massive university.

Greek life at Whitewater is more of a meaningful subculture than a campus-wide phenomenon. A lot of students are involved in athletics, the business school, or other campus organizations, so Greek life shares space with plenty of other ways to get plugged in. For the students who do go Greek, chapters tend to be tight-knit just by virtue of their size.
