2026 IFC rush advice
by: jefferson
Old one got deleted.
1. Visit as many houses during open house as you can. One of the most fun parts of rush, try to limit each stop to 30-45 minutes max. Try to go to houses that you actually want to join / have a shot at (don't waste your time at DKE if you didn’t dirty rush).
2. Rush in a group, with friends, roommates, hallmates etc. Houses like to rush friend groups, plus it’s more fun. You can compare notes and make better decisions.
3. Dont dress like a bot.
4. Get a fake ID ASAP.
5. During first round you can go to 2 houses a night to maximize exposure and get more second round invites.
6. Pick houses to rush where you have the most fun and get along with the brothers and other rushees. Every year kids rush 1 or 2 houses heavily because of their rank and then get dropped without a backup.
7. Brothers lie. Rush chairs lie. They will make things up about other houses. They’re just trying to win rush. Decide for yourself what you think about a house instead of what others tell you. That being said, some houses do have better reputations than others.
8. Houses will use snap bids and other pressure tactics to try to get you to accept a bid. Just go through the process normally and make your own mind up.

Two other things:
1) Yes, it's more fun to rush with a buddy group, but don't ever come across as part of a package deal with anyone else. This never works out and will get you dropped from a house that could be a good fit for you. You and your best friend/roommate can stay just as good friends in different houses.
2) While the older guys rushing you set the tone for the chapter, it's your pledge class that you will be closest with for the next four years and beyond. Look around at the other guys rushing with you, some of them will end up being your pledge brothers and the ones that will make or break your entire fraternity experience. Take that into careful consideration.
