Umiami culture
by: HiWhat’s UMiami and the culture like? I’m from California and haven’t met anyone from the east coast before but heard there’s a lot of people here from nj and New York. Will there be a huge culture shock?

It could be, but you can find your people. Recent grad here so lol so tik tok and morbid curiosity made me look at this site again. But anyway as someone who was there for a while, it has changed a bit, and definitely become even more of a school for wealthy kids, with the school catering amenities, dorms etc to the kids that can pay full tuition. The influencer culture has really taken off as well. So yeah the “dominant” culture there is very superficial rich kid. A lot of people act like only the “top” frat and sororities matter and live a lifestyle of eating out and doing expensive things that perfectly normal people cannot afford.
There’s a huge but. It’s an amazing city and an amazingly diverse school. There is so much to do no matter what you’re into and so many people there from all over. If you get caught up in trying to keep up or look cool with a crowd that’s not natural for you, you will be misreble. Just check tik tok, and see all the girls crying cuz they got “dropped” from rush when we all know there was 3-4 houses left that would have been happy to have them. If you can ignore all the noise, and (if ur not rich) not feel left out when you have to decline some tickets and brunch invites, you can find ur people and have a blast.
