rushing as a sophomore
by: anonI am considering rushing as a sophomore and I know it’s a competitive process, so I was wondering how many/which of the sororities realistically take second years. I’m a bit nervous about recruitment and I want to have realistic expectations. also does it matter if you have rushed before? I didn’t, but I know some other people that are a bit concerned about how re-rushing affects their chances

There is no stigma to re-rushing, you are just another second year going through. Your best chance as a soph is with chapters who have members you know and are friendly with. Let those girls know, right now, that you are rushing and are interested in their chapter, because decisions for first round releases are made throughout the summer, not when rush actually begins. You have a chance at any house that invites you back for the second round. At that point it will be up to how you present yourself in person and which chapters deem you to be a good fit. The in-state heavy chapters are almost exclusively focused on freshmen from certain towns and high schools and can easily fill a NM class with those girls, so those will be the ones that you will probably not get to visit. Also, your college GPA will matter to all chapters, and particularly so to those that focus on top grades and high achievers, so that will also be a factor in whether or not you will be invited to a chapter's second round. But that's okay because the vast majority of pnm's get released from some chapters, different chapters, and that's expected as part of the process, so don't fret about it. You don't have a prayer if you don't rush, so DO IT! Many pnm's rushing as sophs find their home!
