concern about rush

by: PNM2014

Hey everyone! I'm about to attend the University of Florida in three weeks. I was thinking about going through rush because it seems like a great way to make new friends! When I started researching some of the sororities on campus, I noticed that they all seemed to be very skinny and looked almost perfect. I became concerned because I don't feel like I look this way. I am slightly overweight. Would being overweight stop me from getting a bid or severely limit the number of sororities that would consider me? Please be honest :) Im reconsidering actually going through rush. thanks so much for your help!

The pictures you see on websites don't necessarily depict the girls overall in the chapter. "Face teams" are huge. Sororities use the same hottest 30 girls in all of their pictures to try to appear perfect. In reality, this isn't the case. Pretty much every sorority is made up of all sorts of girls. You'd be surprised. If you're generally put together and look nice, you'll be okay. Just work with what you've got! Absolutely do NOT let it stop you from rushing. And if you think you're getting cut from houses because of your weight, then they're shallow anyways. You'll find your home. Best of luck to ya :)

It won't stop you from getting a bid but it will limit you. Start getting in shape by going to the gym and eating healthier, less carbs. Maybe talk at rush about how you want to become a better person in all aspects of life. You seem nice, good luck.
