Not true at all — I’m very far from rich and my sorority’s costs are less than what you would spend on a meal plan.

sororitys are on the upper end of the UF income scale, which would describe most of us as affluent. A girl who was lucky enough to be both rich and smart would be attending an elite private school. Behind those pictures of UF sororitys in Rome and Capri are hard working parents digging deep in their pockets to give their little darlings a full taste of life.

Ask around at rush when you’re starting to make final decisions on houses. I was surprised to find out that some good sororities are remarkably cheap- even cheaper than my fraternity- despite so many of them being double or triple what fraternities pay.

Most sorority girls are upper middle class or above. People say who are not that "Rich" say they are not that rich compared to rich people. But they are richer than many of the students in UF.

Keep in mind yes the average is $2500 first semester and a slight but less second semester- but that includes 10 meals a week, and 90% of your social activities.

There’s no easy answer bc sororities ARE expensive but where there’s a will there’s a way! Some girls work their butts off to afford it and others are lucky enough that their chapters have programs to help sisters out. At the end of the day, most of these chapters aren’t in it to make money and if you’re a member they do as much as they can to help out. My advice if you’re thinking about rushing but are concerned about the price, rush any way and talk to one of the members about what they offer as far as aid and the cost of dues (and make sure to ask if that price is per semester or per academic year). If you end up joining and start drowning in bills trying to afford dues it’s so easy to drop. Also keep in mind other costs like t-shirts, date functions, and other add on type things. Some chapters include this and others don’t. If you don’t care about that stuff then it doesn’t make sense to pay more for it, but if you do it might be worth it bc those will add up. Hope that helps.

But upper class. No doubt. MIne costs 5k per year. without the tee shirts and date functions. I do not live in the house , nor do I eat at the house hardly ever. I actually have out grown the whole srst thing. I am a senior and will be studying abroad the fall semester . sororitys are fake and phoney cliques like HS. Please think twice about this. The girls claim to be your friends but no they are not..

You do out grow it.

One “out grows” your sorority if your close friends end up outside your sorority. But if you are active and live in the house so that your best friends are also members, you’ll enjoy the sorority all the way through graduation and even after. You get out of it what you put into it. I graduated a year ago, and my friends and I were active til the very end. I miss it.
