Giving out bids and seeing how many will accept the bids are two different things. Nothing is final until everyone is initiated, then you will have the final count. Again, it's to early to tell.

How many bids do they usually give out?

they're in financial trouble from last year and need a big fall pledge class to make up the current deficit in their budget, they got a bunch of the kids they wanted but also bidded up a bunch of randoms too just for numbers, and at the end of the day it's a second consecutive watered down pledge class from beta after last year's underground pc

What’s the point of doing rush if you already knew who you were gonna bid?

every fraternity knows to an extent who they want to bid, because they have friends, family, and alumni's children (Legacies) that they have known or met in the past. Past those people though, everyone has a pretty equal chance at any fraternity.

They're behind financially and their rush chairs can give bids on the spot if they think that guys are good enough for the whole chapter. Very aggressive process

If a fraternity does well over the summer, then they already know who they are going to bid and likely have an idea if that person will accept or not. They knew who they were going to bid, and those kids accepted.

Money also comes in to play, similar to when ATO had a 70 person pledge class the year their house renovations were completed

How do you get involved in meeting people over the summer if you don’t live close to Gainesville and can’t make it there?

its called summer b, and its where 75% of the kids who get bids meet guys from the fraternity. Its almost impossible to figure out who a kid really is from rush, and its much easier to figure that out over the course of 6 weeks during summer b.

thats why fraternities - and in this case beta - dont feel bad about bidding kids on the first day, because theyve got a chance to be with them all summer to determine if they would be a good fit or not.

its not rocket science
