sorority dismissal

by: Q&A

If I was dismissed from my sorority for financial reasons and I go to a brand new school could I ever join another sorority? Or If I sign my papers for my sorority could I ever join another one?

Were you initiated? If so, no. If you were just a new member but were not yet officially initiated, then yes. However, regardless of whether you were initiated or not, you can never re-join that same sorority anywhere.

initiated, you can get your old nationals written permission to another sorority's nationals. I definitely know girls who've done it.

But when you are kicked out you are then known as unaffiliated. So that person is not recognized as ever being in the sorority, correct? so why wouldn't a person who was kicked out of a sorority be able to join another one if there record with their old one is erased and technically they were "never in" the sorority.

you don't just become unaffiliated, you technically become an alum. it's not erased, npc will find out and so will your new sorority and you'll be kicked out.

If you have been initiated into an NPC sorority and resign, or are expelled, you can NEVER join another NPC sorority at ANY school.

know people who have. You have to get consent from both nationals and confirmation that you are no longer a member of the first sorority. It's hard but not impossible. That said, if you were dismissed for financial reasons is it responsible for you to be trying to join another sorority?

It is a National Panhellenic Conference agreement that no initiated member of any of the NPC's 26 member organization can join another NPC sorority, for any reason. All 26 sororities agree to this. If you truly know someone who has done this, then she has lied, and should she be found out, her current membership would be terminated, as per NPC agreement.

you can get a mutual agreement by both nationals and do it. You're the one that's wrong, sorry. It is allowed at least by certain nationals and is not forbidden by the Panhellenic. Chill out it's not good for your health.

it's really publicized, but I have known several people who got mutual consent by both national organizations saying that they were not a member of the original organization. It's a little sketchy and weird at best and maybe even under the table somewhat as far as the sororities go, but I don't care enough about what someone else doing it to make an issue. Maybe they transferred and were denied reaffiliation or kicked out for something ridiculous.
