how long is too long to drop out?

Going into Recruitment I was not 100% on joining a sorority or even rushing at all. I ended up getting a bid from a house that I don't believe I would necessarily fit in with. They are very nice girls but personally I don't know if I would really mesh well with them. I am not trying to be ungrateful because I know there were a lot of PNMs who did not get a bid. But how long is too long to drop out? I would like to try out the sorority before initiation to get a better feel for the PC and sorority in general but I don't want to seem like I am using them for free food and gifts.

drop at least a week before big little, make sure girls in the pledge class above you get a chance to find a new little
