Does being a legacy to a sorority actually carry any weight anymore?

Depends on the house to be honest. But yes it does carry some weight.

just bc you are a legacy does not mean you get a bid, but it certainly has an effect on how and who you are rushed by. it does not get overlooked

Is rush that deliberately planned? Like do the actives know before rush even starts who they will be rushing?

Girl come on. I know that as a PNM I had no clue they matched so meticulously. I literally thought it was a coincidence I kept getting matched with girls from my major, hometown, or clubs or whatever. Hell I didn't even think about it until like round 3 when I got matched with girls that were pre-med like 3 times in a row and I was like wait hold up. It seems so obvious now but as a PNM you know nothing unless you know someone on the inside. Yes, rush is that deliberately planned. The girl rushing you has been assigned to you 99% of the time, and definitely already knows your name and other basic information to steer the conversation beforehand. The other 1% is when the line gets messed up and the girl you're matched with ends up with the wrong PNM.

it depends on what it is. if your biological sister is already an active member here then chances are you'll get in if you want to. if your grandma was a member 50 years ago at a different school and you're nothing like the girls in that chapter here, it probably won't help you past round 2.

Can you explain this more? I have two sisters in different houses at UF and Im a PNM...what does this mean for me?

there is nothing really to explain...it truly depends on the house, if they think you are a good fit, etc. does being a legacy carry some weight? absolutely. HOWEVER, that in NO WAY means you are getting a bid...every house has a different way of dealing with legacies according to nationals. i would say my houses like "policy" but thats giving away a little too much information ;) and in regards to the in house leg comment..in my own house and in my friends houses(from stories i have heard personally for them), regardless of your tier, when an in-house legacy is dropped it can be a very emotional time for the active sisters, people who know her, etc.

THAT BEING SAID, please keep in mind that sometimes when you are dropped IT IS NOT BECAUSE HOUSES HATE YOU. there are over 1500 girls going through recruitment. most of the time it is helping you because you are getting more of a chance to be in OTHER houses you belong in more. i know that sounds weird, like 'how do they know what house i belong in they don't even know me,' however this is the truth. i never thought i would end up in the house i did and even though it was hard af, i wouldn't change it for anything!

It honestly depends on the house. If your biological sister is an active in the chapter, the chances are much greater that you could get a bid 1. because people/your sister's friends know you through the reputation of your sister 2. you have someone/maybe more within the chapter who would be willing to fight for you. Some chapters are more likely to honor your legacy status through your mother/grandmother, but not always. I have seen girls dropped even though they had sisters/mothers etc. in the sorority, so it doesn't hurt you but it doesn't always help, to be honest.
