rush as a sophomore

by: Soph

I'll be a sophomore in the fall and I intend to rush as I didn't know much about the process my freshman year. I'm worried that me being a sophomore and also not being super skinny like some of the girls I see is going to put me behind in the houses. I feel like I shouldn't feel this way but can't help thinking I'll be looked over. Any thoughts?

rush is very superficial. there are bigger girls in top houses of course, and if you have a great personality they'll definitely want you regardless. if you're shy or don't come off as interesting, you might want to look toward the middle/lower houses. for instance dz, kkg, phi mu, axo, sk

Rush is superficial, so really look at whether you are willing for people to make quick (sometimes surface judgments about you). If that would really deeply bother you or shake your self esteem, take that into consideration when deciding whether or not to do it. Rush can be fun, but also pretty stressful. If you decide to go forward, try not to worry and just be yourself. If it is meant to be, it will work out. If you show a fun personality and really click with people, that can go a long way. Good luck either way!

You don't have to be super skinny to have a successful rush. You have some time left to work on presenting your healthiest and happiest self which is what matters most. Rush is superficial in nature but it doesn't mean you have to be VS model ready to get a bid. I rushed as a sophomore and think I have a few pounds to lose and ended up in a "top" house. You do you

IF you are confidant in your skin and like how you look, than stay true to yourself, and know rush is superficial going into it,

IF your weight bothers YOU and only you, you have the gift of two months to get into shape and lose weight. I lost a ton of weight on 21 Day Fix. If you'd like, I can put you in touch with someone who is nutritionist and works with the program.

I am not usually an awkward person but the process last year was uncomfortable and did not, I feel, help me bring out my true personality. How do you get interesting conversations to just happen??? I need rush help please

People love to talk about themselves and things that they know. Ask questions you genuinely want to know regarding their sorority and sorority life. If you have heard they do a great philanthropy, ask about it. If you are curious how they handle academics and social life, inquire. If you notice something interesting about their house, comment and/or ask about it. Unless they ask you about it, don't try to tell your entire life story early on. The first part is a lot first impression. Try to keep a positive attitude. Try to maintain comfortable eye contact...a good trick, if that is uncomfortable for you, is to look at the spot between their eyes...it looks like you are making eye contact even if you are not.

If you find yourself thinking of your own responses while they are talking, let go of your response in your mind and really listen to what they are saying. People can tell if you are genuinely interested in what they are saying. If it is in your nature, be friendly in a cool cat sort of way, not in a bouncing, happy puppy dog sort of way. The happy puppy dog type can across a bit over enthusiastic and can be a little off putting. However, if bouncy puppy dog is your true personality, own it. Rush is not a good time to be fake, it can come back to haunt you later.
