i think this is relevant
by: Bernie Clintonso I see a lot about the tier system here and there seems to be a lot of emphasis placed on it. my question is... what is the actual advantage to joining a top tier house? (besides being paired with relevant frats, that's provably one of the things I care about the least since I would be joining for the sisterhood) I'm asking because I'm not sure exactly what it is girls are defending about their chapters when they argue that their houses should be ranked higher...

There really is no advantage to joining a "top tier" vs lower tier house besides superficial reasons of course. The only thing that sets these tiers apart are looks as a whole I guess, there are gorgeous girls in every sorority at UF, but top tiers are typically seen as more attractive due to the majority of the girls being pretty. Honestly the quality of the girls between tiers does not vary much imo, so if you're looking for sisterhood, join what feels like home to you and don't look at top tiers as more elite just because they are pretty and pair with cuter frat boys.

honestly there is no real advantage. I am in a top tier sorority and I have not had any more meaningful advantages than girls in lower tier sororities. if you're a pretty girl you will be noticed for it. if you're not so pretty, being around a bunch of other pretty girls won't change anything. so the name and rep of your house doesn't do much for you personally. it's what's formed through the sisterhood of your house that really matters in the end.
