Loyola Marymount University - LMU Overview

  About Greek Life at LMU

Loyola Marymount sits on the Westside of Los Angeles, and the Greek system there reflects a lot of what the school is — Catholic-affiliated, relatively small, and deeply tied to a culture of service and community involvement. It's not a massive state school scene, but there's a solid mix of organizations across multiple councils.

The IFC covers the men's fraternities, and Panhellenic oversees the sororities. You've also got chapters affiliated with the National Pan-Hellenic Council as well as multicultural Greek-letter organizations, which gives the overall system more range than you might expect from a school LMU's size. Groups like Delta Sigma Theta and Sigma Lambda Beta bring that representation to campus, and Chi Delta Theta rounds out the multicultural side as well. Delta Sigma Pi operates as a co-ed professional business fraternity, so the community isn't strictly social either.

LMU is a private Jesuit school with an undergraduate population in the low thousands, so this is a smaller Greek community than what you'd find at a big state university. That said, Greek organizations are genuinely active on campus and tend to be pretty involved in philanthropy and service events throughout the year, which fits the school's broader mission. Chapters here do a lot with community outreach, and that culture shows up in how orgs present themselves during recruitment.

One thing to know upfront: LMU chapters don't have dedicated chapter houses on or off campus the way you'd see at a large SEC or Big Ten school. Social events and chapter life happen through other venues, which does shape the overall vibe. Recruitment tends to be more low-key and personal compared to the big formal rush processes you see elsewhere. Panhellenic follows a structured recruitment format, while IFC recruitment is a bit more informal.

The Greek system at LMU isn't the centerpiece of social life on campus the way it might be at a large public university, but it's a consistent presence. Members tend to be involved across campus — student government, athletics, campus ministry — so the overlap with other parts of LMU life is pretty common.
