Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology - RHIT Overview

  About Greek Life at RHIT

Rose-Hulman is a small, private engineering school in Terre Haute, Indiana, and that context matters a lot when you're thinking about what the Greek system looks like here. The student body is pretty compact — we're talking a few thousand undergrads — and the Greek community reflects that scale. It's not a sprawling system with dozens of chapters, but it's genuinely present on campus and has been for a long time.

On the fraternity side, there are several IFC-affiliated chapters, including well-known nationals like Alpha Tau Omega, Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi Gamma Delta, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Nu, Delta Sigma Phi, and Theta Xi, along with Triangle, which is an engineering-focused fraternity that fits naturally at a school like this. Sororities are fewer in number, with Alpha Omicron Pi, Chi Omega, and Delta Delta Delta making up the Panhellenic council. There's no NPHC or MGC presence to speak of at this time.

Rush at a school like Rose-Hulman tends to be a bit more low-key than what you'd see at a big state school. It's structured, but the size of the campus means recruitment feels more personal. You're not getting lost in a crowd — you're actually getting to know people. That said, engineering school culture is intense, and chapters here understand that academics come first. Greek life adapts to that reality.

Socially, Greek organizations carry a real presence on campus given the school's small size. Rose-Hulman doesn't have a huge bar scene or a major D1 football culture driving social life, so chapters end up hosting more of the social events and philanthropic programming that fill the calendar. Philanthropy involvement is pretty standard across chapters here, consistent with national organization expectations.

Most of the fraternities have chapter houses on or near campus, which gives Greek life a physical footprint that's noticeable even at this scale. The sororities operate without dedicated houses, which is common at smaller schools. Overall, it's a smaller, more close-knit Greek community than you'd find at a large university, but for a tight-knit engineering school, it plays a meaningful role in campus social life.
