Denison University - DU Overview

  About Greek Life at DU

Denison University is a small liberal arts school in Granville, Ohio, and the Greek system here is a genuinely central part of campus social life. With around 2,300 undergrads on a residential hilltop campus with limited off-campus options, the organizations under IFC, Panhellenic, NPHC, and MGC all play an outsized role in how students spend their weekends and build their social circles.

The IFC fraternities include chapters like Beta Theta Pi, Delta Chi, Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi Delta Theta, Sigma Chi, Kappa Sigma, and Phi Kappa Psi. On the Panhellenic side, you've got Delta Delta Delta, Delta Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Pi Beta Phi. The NPHC and MGC presence rounds things out with organizations like Alpha Kappa Alpha, Alpha Phi Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Phi Beta Sigma, Phi Iota Alpha, Lambda Theta Alpha, Sigma Gamma Rho, Sigma Lambda Gamma, Alpha Sigma Rho, and Chi Sigma Tau — so there's real council diversity here beyond just the traditional IFC/Panhellenic structure.

Rush at Denison runs through a formal recruitment process in the fall. Because the school is small and everyone pretty much knows everyone, recruitment can feel more personal and low-key compared to big state schools. That said, a significant portion of the student body does go Greek, so it's not exactly a niche thing — it shows up in the social fabric of campus in a pretty visible way.

Fraternities at Denison have chapter spaces on campus, though the setup is different from the sprawling Greek rows you'd find at a large public university. Sororities follow the NPC model and don't have residential houses, which is typical for that side of Greek life at smaller schools. Philanthropy events and chapter-hosted social functions are regular parts of the calendar throughout the academic year.

Because Denison is a tight-knit residential campus where most students live on the hill all four years, Greek organizations tend to have a staying power in people's social lives that you might not find at a commuter school or a large university where students scatter into the surrounding city.
