let’s say you have house a (the one you want) and house b (the other house) and the quota for both are 50 and they take in 100 girls for pref.
you’re number 52 on house a
and number 23 on house b
if you put house a 1 and house b 2 you just have to wait for two girls to choose another house and if they don’t and all 50 girls want to stay at house a, then you go house b. you are still in the front in the line with queue of the girls waiting for house a since you choose to put 2.
if you put only house a then if you’re not in the top 50 of the girls they want, you instantly get pot the back of the line of girls waiting in the queue at 100. the only way you get house a by suicide bidding is being in their original top 50.

also there is a third case scenario that happens often where you’re 52 on house a and number 51 on house b even after girls in both have chosen and houses have their 50 girls. they will put you in house a no matter what and that’s why some pcs are bigger than others since they are required to have you in a house. putting both house on your pref sheet really maximizes your options into getting into the house you want. if you only put one and you were outside the 50, you would’ve been dropped.
