No bid from preference after Preference round?

by: Bid?

Just wondering, is it uncommon to not receive a bid from my top preference after the final round? It feels like it would be weird to make it that far, have what seems like a good meeting with my top pick in Preference Round, and then not get a bid. Does anyone know how common it is? Just wondering how much I need to worry over the next two days.

If you listed all your options after pref round (so you listed both if you had 2 or whichever house you preffed if you had 1) then congrats, you are guaranteed a bid! That's why Rho Gams emphasize maximizing options so much. If you only listed 1 of your 2 houses, you are not guaranteed a bid and, because of how the methodology works, are more likely to be dropped (methodology penalizes only listing 1 bc of quota additions).

Thank you. I listed two. Was more just wondering what the odds of it being the top one are versus the second choice. It is very complicated!

Gotcha. So, since you listed both, the system gives greater emphasis to your top ranked house. If the connections seemed pretty strong, there is a really good chance you will get your #1 house! You generally only get your second house if A) your #1 house ranked a lot of PNMs who also listed your #1 house as their #1 higher than you in their list AND B) your #2 house ranked you fairly high in their bid list OR C) your #2 house did not have a lot of PNMs rank them #1.

So, you have a very good chance! And worst case scenario, you still end up in a fantastic house that thought very highly of you. Good luck! :)

you aren't necessarily guaranteed a bid to your top choice if you list both houses you still have but they do try their hardest to stick you with your top

For some reason I can't respond directly to responses here, but just wanted to say thank you for the replies. That is very helpful.
