Pace University - PU Overview

  About Greek Life at PU

Pace University sits in the middle of New York City, and that setting shapes everything about campus social life — including how Greek life fits into the picture. With Manhattan right outside your door, students have a lot competing for their attention, so the Greek system here exists as one option among many rather than the dominant force it might be at a traditional residential campus.

The system is on the smaller side, with a handful of fraternities and sororities across multiple councils. IFC and Panhellenic cover the more traditional fraternity and sorority chapters, while NPHC is also represented through several historically Black organizations — including Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Sigma Gamma Rho, and Zeta Phi Beta. Having NPHC presence at a school this size is worth knowing about if that's where your interest lies.

Don't expect a traditional Greek Row situation here. Pace doesn't have dedicated chapter houses the way a large state school might, so the experience is less about living with your brothers or sisters and more about the social and organizational side of membership. Events, philanthropy, and chapter meetings tend to be how members stay connected rather than shared housing.

Rush and recruitment are lower-key compared to bigger schools. Because the overall student body is more commuter-oriented and the city pulls people in a lot of directions, Greek recruitment doesn't have the same all-consuming energy you'd see at a flagship state university. That said, the organizations that are here are active and do put effort into philanthropy and campus events throughout the year.

If you're coming from a school where Greek life was a massive part of the social fabric, Pace will feel different. It's a more self-contained community within a larger, city-driven campus culture — closer-knit by nature given the smaller membership numbers across each chapter.
