Hope College - HC Overview

  About Greek Life at HC

Hope College is a small, private liberal arts school in Holland, Michigan, with a strong Dutch Reformed heritage and a tight-knit campus feel. The college has around 3,000 undergrads, so pretty much everything here operates on a smaller, more personal scale — and the Greek community is no different.

What's present on campus is a smaller Greek system with representation from both a fraternity and a sorority. Phi Sigma Kappa holds down the fraternity side, while Delta Sigma Theta — a historically Black sorority with roots in the National Pan-Hellenic Council — rounds out the sorority representation. That NPHC presence is notable at a school this size and reflects a broader effort to bring different kinds of Greek organizations to campus.

Because Hope is a religiously affiliated school with a strong emphasis on community service, academics, and campus programming, Greek life fits into a broader social ecosystem rather than dominating it. Students here tend to be involved in a lot of things — club sports, chapel activities, student government — so fraternities and sororities are one part of the picture, not the whole thing.

Don't expect the classic Big Ten-style rush experience here. Recruitment tends to be lower-key and more relationship-driven, which fits the overall culture of the school. Chapter sizes are smaller, events are more intimate, and the whole process feels less like a massive production and more like getting to know a smaller group of people.

On the housing front, Hope doesn't have a traditional Greek row with chapter houses the way larger universities do. Social events and chapter life are woven into the broader campus rather than anchored to dedicated fraternity or sorority housing. Philanthropy and community engagement are a consistent thread across organizations here, which aligns with the college's overall mission-driven identity.
