Morehouse College - MC Overview

  About Greek Life at MC

Morehouse College is one of the most storied HBCUs in the country, and that legacy runs directly through its fraternity culture. As an all-male institution in Atlanta, Morehouse has a Greek scene rooted almost entirely in the National Pan-Hellenic Council — the NPHC, which is the governing body for the historically Black fraternities and sororities that make up the "Divine Nine." There are no IFC chapters here, and because Morehouse is a men's college, there are no sorority chapters with active membership on campus either.

The fraternities present include Alpha Phi Alpha, Iota Phi Theta, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, and Phi Beta Sigma — a solid representation of the Divine Nine on one campus. These organizations have serious historical ties to Morehouse, and membership carries real weight here. This isn't a school where fraternities are mostly about parties and housing. The culture leans heavily toward brotherhood, service, and professional development, which fits with what Morehouse is all about more broadly.

Recruitment at NPHC chapters works differently than the rush processes you'd see at predominantly white institutions. There's no formal open rush week in the same sense. Interest meetings, intake processes, and membership selection are more structured and selective, and they happen on each organization's own timeline. It's a process that takes longer and means more to get through.

Chapter housing in the traditional sense — a fraternity house on Greek Row — isn't really part of the setup here. Atlanta itself becomes part of the social fabric, and chapter events, step shows, and probate reveals tend to be the moments that define Greek visibility on campus. Step shows especially are a huge deal at Morehouse and across the Atlanta University Center more broadly, drawing crowds from Spelman, Clark Atlanta, and beyond.

Philanthropy and community engagement are central to how these chapters operate and present themselves publicly. That's true of NPHC organizations nationally, and it holds at Morehouse specifically. The Greek community here is smaller and more concentrated than what you'd find at a large state school, but the organizations that are active tend to be deeply embedded in the culture of the college.
