gpa

Does GPA play a big role in who sororities decide to keep? I was a Biology Pre-Med major my first semester and I unfortunately barely made the 2.5 minimum to rush. I felt like I had great conversations the first round, but found I had been dropped by a a decent amount of sororities. I ended up dropping recruitment so I could get my grades up and try again next year. I just wanted to know if maybe my GPA was a red flag to sororities?

It plays a huge role. Our first round, we automatically cut every single girl who doesn't make our (the sorority's, not Panhellenic's) minimum GPA. Rush again next year when your grades are up and you'll definitely have an easier time.

Thanks so much for the reply! I'm honestly a really friendly and social girl and it kind of surprised and discouraged me when I wasn't left with too many houses. It made me feel like I was weird or something. It's nice to know my GPA was most likely the problem.

To help you plan for next year, most sororities require at least 2.8, for some, the bare minimum is 3.0. Think it’s posted somewhere, and if you look it up, believe they phrase it as the minimum. So the higher you can get it the better. Maybe take online classes over the summer and even a jterm class next year. Also there’s no flexibility when it comes to a sororities minimum, so please don’t take it personally. It’s not the schools rule, it’s dictated by Nationals.
