Wooster is a small liberal arts college in northeast Ohio, and its Greek scene reflects that scale pretty directly. There are two organizations currently active on campus — Phi Sigma Alpha (ΦΣΑ) on the fraternity side and Zeta Phi Gamma (ΖΦΓ) on the sorority side. It's a more intimate setup than what you'd find at a Big Ten school down the road, but both organizations are part of the campus community in a real way.
Because Wooster enrolls just under 2,000 undergrads, Greek life here is a smaller piece of the overall social picture rather than the dominant force it might be at a large state university. The campus tends to place a lot of its identity around academics, independent study — Wooster's IS program is kind of legendary — and club and athletic life. Greek organizations exist alongside all of that, not necessarily above it.
Neither chapter operates out of a dedicated Greek house the way you'd see at schools with a traditional Greek Row. Social events and chapter activities tend to happen in campus spaces rather than private chapter houses, which shapes the feel of membership a bit differently than the classic fraternity or sorority experience people picture from movies.
Recruitment at a school this size is generally a pretty low-key, personal process. You're not dealing with massive formal rush weeks with hundreds of potential members — it's more conversational and relationship-driven. That tends to mean you actually get to know current members pretty well before making any decisions.
Philanthropy and community engagement are common threads in Greek life at schools like Wooster, and both organizations participate in campus events throughout the academic year. The Greek community here is small enough that individual members tend to be involved in multiple parts of campus life simultaneously — athletics, student government, arts — rather than being exclusively defined by their chapter affiliation.
