Coastal Carolina University - CCU Overview

  About Greek Life at CCU

Coastal Carolina is a mid-size public university in Conway, South Carolina, just a few miles from Myrtle Beach, and the Greek system there reflects the laid-back coastal culture of the area while still being a real part of campus life. The school has grown a lot over the past couple of decades, and the Greek community has grown alongside it.

There are both IFC and Panhellenic councils operating on campus, covering the NPC sororities and the IFC fraternities you'd expect at a school this size. The National Pan-Hellenic Council also has a presence at CCU, with several historically Black fraternities and sororities active on campus, including Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Phi Beta Sigma, Alpha Kappa Alpha, and Delta Sigma Theta. That gives the overall Greek community a decent cross-section of different council structures under one roof.

Recruitment for IFC chapters tends to follow a fairly typical process for schools in this region — informal at first, with more structured events leading up to bid day. Panhellenic formal recruitment is more organized and runs on a set schedule. If you've been through recruitment at a mid-size Southern school before, the process here will feel pretty familiar. Chapters represented include Pi Kappa Phi, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Lambda Chi Alpha, Kappa Sigma, Phi Gamma Delta, Alpha Delta Pi, Chi Omega, Gamma Phi Beta, Phi Sigma Sigma, Sigma Sigma Sigma, Alpha Xi Delta, and Sigma Kappa, among others.

CCU doesn't have a traditional Greek Row with big chapter houses the way flagship schools in the SEC do. Most chapters operate without dedicated housing, which shapes the social scene a bit — gatherings and events tend to happen at off-campus venues or through university-sanctioned spaces. That said, Greek organizations are still active on campus and show up in philanthropy events, intramurals, and student government in visible ways.

Being close to Myrtle Beach means there's always something competing for social attention, so Greek life exists alongside a pretty active general campus culture rather than dominating it. It's a meaningful part of the community for the students who are involved, but the beach town atmosphere means campus life here doesn't hinge entirely on the Greek system the way it might at a more isolated college town.
