by: admittedI am going to be a freshman. I am legacy. My sister graduated from Clemson in 2015. I was just wondering if this going to help me. Also, she told me all about recruitment but just wondering how much has changed in the last three year. And do the rankings change much year to year.

This is not quite true. While each chapter is required to release a certain number of pnm's after each round, it's based on the number of girls rushing, not a pre-set number of available 'spots', and so the numbers adjust every year accordingly. But you are going to be released by houses you love, so be ready for that. The worst thing you can do is drop out of rush when houses you love release you. If you drop out you are not being fair to yourself and allowing a second look at the houses that really LOVE you that could be the best thing that ever happened to you.

oh and something that is really hard is that if your roommate doesn't rush then she moves in on pref day and it is really hard to be getting ready and crying about not getting top choices while meeting her for the first time. I was lucky and mine was really super nice, but I feel like anyone else would have thought I was a nut case because I certainly didn't feel like myself with all the pressure. so definitely try to get roommate going thru rush too.

Just because you got released from houses doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with you. There are only so many slots available and It wouldn’t be fair to you to keep inviting you back when they will end up selecting others because of legacy, friends, etc.
Best advice go through all of rush and if you don’t like your pref rounds then drop out. Only other advice is to wait and rush as a sophomore. Maybe you will meet a friend the the chapter you wanted and/or you could end up meeting some girls in an entirely different sorority and choose them instead. Above all else, be yourself!

So being a legacy doesn’t help at all? I heard that it did with some sororities but sounds like that’s wrong?

Why are you on here? Stop using GR as a reliable source of information. If you really want facts about recruitment, ask your local alumnae panhellenic. I know some of them have meetings to go over this stuff with hs seniors in the spring and summer. Besides info about membership selection is private for all groups, so anything on here is speculation.

First, verify that you actually are a legacy. Daughters and sisters of initiated members are legacies at every national sorority, but after that it differs widely among sororities. You might not be an actual legacy, but you can easily find out through the national organization if you are and what that would mean during rush. Legacies are usually automatically asked to the first invited round as a courtesy, but after that have no special treatment unless they go to pref at their legacy house; in that case they are usually put at the top of the bid list. But every sorority is a little different and there are NEVER ANY GUARANTEES.

Legacy status only gets you invited back for first round automatically or moves you up on bid list if you make it to pref. But you have to pass other rounds on your own merit. It’s not a guaranteed spot in by any means, it just might help a little if they’re on the edge about you and another girl

All I can say is be prepared for anything. It is so super competitive and he top tiers definitely have a certain type of girl. Everyone tells you as a PNM to be open and you will find the right place, but the truth is that the top tier houses are not open. It just sucks. So like the girl above said be prepared to cry every day.

If you are CLOSE MINDED and believe that only the "top tiers" are good houses, then yes you'll cry -- and you SHOULD. All the houses at Clemson are full of great women who are smart, attractive, and accomplished (they wouldn't have gotten into Clemson if they weren't). It's people like you who only want four or five houses out of twelve who make those four houses "competitive." If you limit yourself based on some false info about tiers you find here -- and don't get to know the other houses -- then maybe you shouldn't be in a sorority.

How much of a stigma is there? Like if you don’t get into a top sorority, is it still fun? What are the cons of not getting into a top one?

Yes. Last year XO was arguable the worst house in the south and now they are “top tier” based on this site. Tiers move based on a couple hot dudes deciding what sororities are “fun” and “cute” I’m not a tridelt (I swear) and I’d put them waaaaay above XO any day.

2. Where are you getting this info? They had some of the best return rates during recruitment. Tridelt did good for the first time in a like a decade, but XOs recruitment was better. Looks wise, I agree tridelt is better than XO. And also- from the south? They’re predominantly northern lol
