Clayton College and State University - CSU Overview

  About Greek Life at CSU

Clayton State University is a commuter-focused public university just south of Atlanta, and that context shapes everything about how the Greek system works here. It's not a traditional residential campus with a Greek Row, so don't expect fraternity or sorority houses lining a street near campus. Chapters operate without dedicated housing, which is pretty standard for schools with this kind of commuter profile.

The Greek community here is on the smaller side, with a handful of fraternities and sororities active on campus. The organizations present are split between what you'd recognize as IFC-affiliated fraternities and NPHC organizations — the historically Black fraternities and sororities that make up the Divine Nine. Alpha Kappa Psi, Phi Beta Sigma, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Sigma Gamma Rho, Zeta Phi Beta, and others have had a presence here, with NPHC chapters being a particularly visible part of campus culture.

Because this is a commuter school in the greater Atlanta metro, Greek life doesn't dominate the social scene the way it might at a large residential state university. Students come from all over the region, many are working adults or transfers, and campus social life generally reflects that mix. Greek organizations tend to carve out their space through events, step shows, community service, and yard presence rather than through the kind of constant on-campus programming you'd see at a bigger residential school.

Recruitment and intake processes here follow the norms of their respective councils. NPHC chapters go through a more formal membership intake process rather than an open rush week, and interest in those organizations tends to be expressed through demonstrated campus involvement over time. The Greek community at Clayton State is more of a niche presence than a campus-wide social engine, but the chapters that are active tend to be genuinely engaged with both the university and the surrounding South Atlanta community.
