Central Connecticut State University - CCSU Overview

  About Greek Life at CCSU

Central Connecticut State University is a mid-size regional public university in New Britain, and its Greek system reflects that — smaller in scale, but present on campus for students who want that experience. CCSU draws a lot of commuter students and has a pretty career-focused student body overall, so Greek life here is more of a niche corner of campus culture than a dominant social force.

The active organizations include Lambda Theta Phi and Lambda Alpha Upsilon on the fraternity side, along with Phi Delta Theta, and Phi Sigma Sigma as the active sorority presence. Lambda Theta Phi and Lambda Alpha Upsilon are Latino-founded fraternities that fall under the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) umbrella, while Phi Delta Theta is an IFC organization. That mix means the Greek community here spans across multiple councils rather than being anchored to one.

Don't expect a traditional "Greek Row" situation — CCSU chapters generally don't operate out of dedicated chapter houses the way you'd see at a large state school. Recruitment tends to be lower-key and more relationship-driven, less of a formal rush week spectacle and more of an ongoing process where you get to know members over time.

Philanthropy and community service are a real part of how these chapters operate and stay visible on campus. Since the system is on the smaller side, individual chapters tend to be tight-knit, and members often take on active roles in multiple campus organizations beyond their chapter.

For students coming from bigger high schools with large Greek programs, the scale here will feel different. It's an intimate community, and the organizations that are here stay active through events, service work, and campus involvement throughout the academic year.
