Hanover College - HC Overview

  About Greek Life at HC

Hanover College is a small liberal arts school tucked along the Ohio River in southern Indiana, and its Greek system is a genuinely central part of how social life works on campus. With a student body of only around 1,000 undergrads, the Greek community here carries a lot of weight. A significant portion of students go Greek, so it's not a fringe thing — it's pretty woven into the fabric of the school.

On the fraternity side, you've got four IFC chapters: Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi Delta Theta, Phi Gamma Delta (known as FIJI), and Sigma Chi. Panhellenic has four chapters as well — Alpha Delta Pi, Chi Omega, Kappa Alpha Theta, and Phi Mu. There's no NPHC or MGC presence listed at this time. So the system is smaller in terms of total chapters, but at a school this size, that's pretty normal. Each chapter still has a real presence and identity on campus.

Recruitment at a school like Hanover tends to feel more personal than what you'd see at a big state university. The campus is small and everyone kind of knows everyone, so rush isn't this massive anonymous process — it's more low-key and relationship-driven. Formal recruitment happens each year for both fraternities and sororities, and the tight-knit campus makes the whole process feel a lot more accessible.

Most of the fraternities have chapter houses on or near campus, which makes them natural social hubs on weekends. Greek organizations here also participate in philanthropy events throughout the year, which is pretty standard across Panhellenic and IFC chapters nationally. Those events are usually open to the broader campus community and tend to bring people together outside of just the members themselves.

Because Hanover is so small and residential, Greek life doesn't really exist in isolation from the rest of campus — it overlaps heavily with athletics, student government, and other organizations. That's just what happens at a school where everybody lives and eats and studies in close proximity to each other.
