Boise State University - BSU Overview

  About Greek Life at BSU

Boise State is a mid-size public university in the heart of downtown Boise, and the Greek system there is a real part of campus life without totally dominating it. It's not a huge SEC-style system, but there's a solid group of chapters across multiple councils, and they're genuinely active.

On the fraternity side, IFC governs most of the traditional men's chapters, with well-known nationals like Sigma Chi, Pi Kappa Alpha, Phi Gamma Delta, Alpha Tau Omega, and several others represented on campus. Panhellenic covers the women's side, with chapters including Alpha Chi Omega, Zeta Tau Alpha, Delta Delta Delta, Alpha Gamma Delta, and more. Beyond those two councils, BSU also has Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) representation through organizations like Sigma Lambda Beta, Lambda Theta Phi, Lambda Theta Alpha, and Sigma Lambda Gamma — so the overall system is more varied than people sometimes expect for a school this size.

BSU sits in Boise, which is a college town but also a legitimate mid-size city, so the social scene isn't exclusively built around Greek life the way it might be at a more isolated campus. That said, chapters here are visible and involved. Philanthropy is a big part of how most orgs operate — expect to see fundraising events, community service pushes, and chapter-hosted activities spread throughout the academic year.

Housing is a mixed situation. Some chapters have houses or dedicated spaces, but it's not a traditional Greek Row setup where every org has a massive house lined up along one street. The footprint is more spread out.

Rush and recruitment at BSU tend to be more relaxed than at bigger flagship universities. Formal recruitment happens for Panhellenic chapters in the fall, with IFC chapters running their own processes as well. The smaller system size means you're getting to know chapters pretty personally during the process, which some people prefer over the high-volume recruitment style you'd see at a 30,000-student state school.
