Florida Atlantic University - FAU Overview

  About Greek Life at FAU

FAU is a large public university in Boca Raton with a student body that skews heavily commuter, and that context shapes a lot about how the Greek system operates here. It's not a traditional residential campus where fraternities and sororities dominate the social calendar the way they might at a flagship state school, but there's still a real and active Greek community worth knowing about.

The system is organized across multiple councils. IFC oversees the interfraternal fraternities, Panhellenic covers the NPC sororities, and NPHC represents the historically Black fraternities and sororities — the Divine Nine organizations have a consistent presence here. Depending on the semester, there may also be multicultural Greek organizations operating on campus, so the overall makeup is pretty well-rounded across traditions.

Recruitment works like it does at most mid-size public schools. IFC chapters typically hold informal rush events in the fall and spring, and Panhellenic formal recruitment follows a structured round process. NPHC chapters recruit on their own timelines through interest meetings and intake processes rather than formal rush. If you're interested in any of those, you'll want to connect directly with the chapters or the Office of Student Involvement to get current schedules.

On the housing side, FAU's Greek chapters generally don't have the kind of dedicated Greek Row you'd see at a larger state school. Most chapters operate without chapter houses, so the community tends to center around on-campus event spaces, the student union, and off-campus venues rather than a physical neighborhood of fraternity and sorority houses.

Philanthropy and community service are a genuine part of the culture here. Chapters regularly put on fundraising events and service days, and inter-Greek philanthropy events bring different organizations together throughout the academic year. It's one of the more visible ways Greek organizations show up on campus outside of social events.

Overall, FAU's Greek scene is smaller and more close-knit relative to the total size of the university, which means the organizations that are active tend to have pretty tight membership communities. South Florida's social scene is obviously a huge factor in student life here, and Greek organizations exist alongside that rather than being the primary driver of it.
