Eastern Washington University sits in Cheney, a small college town about 20 minutes outside Spokane, and the Greek system here reflects that mid-size regional university feel. It's not a massive Greek scene, but it's got real range — both in terms of the types of councils represented and the cultures within them.

EWU's Greek community spans multiple governing councils. The Interfraternity Council (IFC) oversees the more traditional fraternities like Sigma Nu, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Beta Theta Pi, Phi Delta Theta, and Delta Chi. The Panhellenic Council covers the sororities, including Alpha Phi, Alpha Xi Delta, Gamma Phi Beta, and Alpha Omicron Pi. On top of that, there's a solid National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) presence with historically Black fraternities and sororities like Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Iota Phi Theta, Phi Beta Sigma, and Zeta Phi Beta. Sigma Lambda Beta rounds things out as a multicultural option.

Recruitment works like it does at most schools of this size — IFC chapters typically hold informal recruitment events in the fall, and Panhellenic runs a more structured formal recruitment process. It's generally a lower-pressure environment than you'd find at a flagship state school, which a lot of people actually prefer.

Greek life at EWU isn't the dominant social force on campus the way it might be at a bigger school, but it's definitely present. Members tend to be involved across campus — student government, athletics, service projects — and chapters put real energy into philanthropy events and community engagement throughout the year. It's more of an active piece of the campus community than the center of it.

Housing varies by chapter. Some fraternities have chapter houses, but not all chapters have dedicated residential facilities, so the experience can differ depending on which organization you're looking at. Cheney's small-town setting means Greek social life and campus life are pretty intertwined overall.
