SORORITY TIER RANKS

by: greekrankgal

With recruitment upcoming, PNMs often wonder who are the “top tier” and “bottom tier” sororities. Most girls want to join the top houses believing it’ll give them a higher social status and overall presence on campus. While considerably outdated and offensive, the tier ranking system is unfortunately very prominent during and outside of recruitment. For anyone going through recruitment this fall, please remember that every sorority is great in their own way and we should be spreading Panhellenic love! This ranking is meant to be informative for PNMs who aren’t already familiar with each sorority here at ECU.

TOP: ADPI, Chi O, AXID, Tri Sig

These four sororities are considered by most to be top tier, though the order is interchangeable depending on who you ask. These sororities are highly selective during recruitment to maintain and preserve their image. ADPI and Chi O are your traditional southern belles. AXID and Tri Sig have a good mix of northern and southern girls. These girls often come from wealthy families with good connections.

MID: Alpha Phi, ZTA, DZ

These are the sororities that are still desirable to many PNMs, but not as highly as the previous four. The overall ranking is once again interchangeable depending on who you ask. Alpha Phi has grown over the years and has made a considerable effort to earn their standing since returning to campus in 2018. With that being said, this is typically the sorority girls want if they are dropped from the previous four. ZTA has earned a solid mid tier reputation. They are well liked and have a variety of girls. DZ is mostly northern and has a slightly different vibe than the rest of the sororities.

BOTTOM: KD, AGD, AOPI, Phi Mu

Finally, these are the sororities considered by most to be bottom tier. During recruitment, these are the sororities a lot of PNMs will have after being dropped by the rest. KD and AGD have made an effort to work on their presence over the years, so some might argue that they are mid tier. AOPI has really grown over this past year and have earned themselves a solid standing. Phi Mu, while a great sorority with beautiful values, is definitely considered by most to be the bottom tier sorority. Ever since losing their house, they haven’t been as desirable as they once were. Phi Mu is desperate to maintain numbers so they will take pretty much anyone, and for most PNMs, it is their last resort.

Overall, every sorority has their pros and cons. There is a home for everyone and girls going through recruitment should focus on finding genuine connections and where they feel most welcomed! These rankings focus more on status, which at the end of the day isn’t everything when joining a sorority.
