Do any chapters do random blackballing? What the hell is the point of that anyway

Some fraternities used to deliberately take a few they knew they intended to ball right away. They did it to shock the pledge class and get control. I don’t think anyone still at FSU does this.

There are also a few chapters that take huge PCs in order to keep some guys out of the hands of other smaller frats. For example, some of the top tier chapters will take 40+ guys in the spring and then ball half of them day one, which means those guys have to wait another semester to rush again. It's really scummy.

Also, the guy above me also made the point of the shock factor. It's a good way to get your PC to shape up if they need it.

First, who do you know takes 40 pledges in a spring class? I don’t know any at FSU.
Second, sororities have rules about having to wait out a semester, but right now there is NO THING to keep a guy from pledging a fraternity and then jumping ship, especially if he’s balled. I know at least one fraternity took Delt pledges within a week after they pledged.
So far, thank God, the school hasn’t tried to restrict rush. We’re not sororities!

Pike only took 22. Does that mean Sig Ep and Theta Chi are leaping ahead of Pike???
