California State University, San Bernardino - CSUSB Overview

  About Greek Life at CSUSB

Situated in the Inland Empire about an hour east of Los Angeles, Cal State San Bernardino is a mid-size commuter-heavy public university with a Greek system that fits right into that context. It's not a massive Greek Row school, but there's a real community here spread across a handful of fraternities and sororities representing different councils and traditions.

The councils active at CSUSB cover a good mix. IFC and Panhellenic govern the more traditional fraternities and sororities, with chapters like Sigma Chi, Sigma Nu, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Phi, Kappa Delta, and Zeta Tau Alpha in that mix. NPHC is represented through historically Black organizations including Alpha Kappa Alpha and Delta Sigma Theta. There's also a strong Latino Greek presence through organizations like Lambda Theta Phi and Gamma Zeta Alpha, which makes sense given the school's demographics — CSUSB is a Hispanic-Serving Institution with one of the more diverse student bodies in the CSU system.

Because CSUSB skews heavily commuter, Greek life operates a bit differently than at a traditional residential campus. Most chapters don't have dedicated houses, so the community is built around on-campus events, philanthropy work, and chapter meetings rather than a house-centered social scene. Recruitment tends to be more informal and relationship-driven compared to the structured, high-pressure rush you'd see at a Big 10 or SEC school.

Philanthropy is a real part of how chapters stay visible on campus. Organizations regularly host fundraisers and community service events throughout the academic year, and that's often how a lot of students first get exposure to specific chapters. The Greek system here is on the smaller side relative to total enrollment, so it's more of a close-knit slice of campus life than a dominant social force.

Delta Sigma Phi and Kappa Sigma round out the IFC side, giving the interfraternity council a solid range of national organizations to draw from. Overall, the Greek community at CSUSB reflects the school itself — diverse, community-oriented, and rooted in the Inland Empire's particular mix of cultures and backgrounds.
