Columbus State University - CSU Overview

  About Greek Life at CSU

Columbus State University sits in Columbus, Georgia, a mid-size city right on the Alabama border, and its Greek system reflects the scale of the school — smaller and more tight-knit than what you'd find at UGA or Georgia Tech, but genuinely active for a regional university of its size.

The Greek community here spans both IFC and Panhellenic councils, which cover your more traditional national fraternities and sororities, as well as a strong NPHC presence. The NPHC orgs — including chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Phi Beta Sigma, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Sigma Gamma Rho, and Zeta Phi Beta — are historically well-established and carry real weight on campus. On the IFC and Panhellenic side, you've got chapters like Kappa Sigma, Sigma Nu, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Alpha Omicron Pi, Delta Zeta, and Phi Mu.

CSU doesn't have a traditional Greek Row with chapter houses the way bigger flagship schools do. Most chapters operate without dedicated housing, so social events and chapter life tend to revolve around campus spaces and off-campus venues rather than a house culture.

Rush and recruitment here are pretty accessible. Because the system is more intimate, the process tends to feel less overwhelming than at larger schools. Formal recruitment happens each semester, and NPHC chapters follow their own intake processes through their national organizations, which is standard across the country.

Greek organizations at CSU tend to be involved in philanthropy and community service events throughout the year, which is a consistent part of how chapters stay visible on campus. Stepshows and other NPHC events are among the more recognized Greek-related activities that draw broader student interest beyond just members themselves.

Overall, this is a Greek system where members tend to know each other across organizations — the size of the school makes it that way.
