Legacy in two sororities
by: TexasI have heard that some houses cut legacies before the first day. Is this a new rule or the actives just knew they were going to cut them anyhow? My daughter is a legacy for two houses at different schools. Is this an advantage or a disadvantage or irrelevant ?

i was a tridelt legacy and got cut before first day of philanthropy. i know two girls with older sisters who had just graduated from the chapter (kappa and kd) and both of them were cut before pref. it’s totally a numbers game and now of days it’s very heavily based on connections among the girls. legacy means almost nothing unless you make it to pref round, where it could give you a bit of a boost.

I was a legacy to Kappa. My Mother and sister were both Kappas. I grew up Kappa, down to the white pants on Bid Day. I had to cut Kappa the first round because every other house expected me to go Kappa. Amazingly, I fell in love with the Pi Phi’s. I let it be known that I was not looking for a key because I got hit with the Pi Phi arrow. It was scary to cut Kappa but my Mother took it horribly! In my days, we were not able to call home for anything, unless you were really sick or there was a family emergency. So, on Bid Day, she went to the Kappa house to see me “come home” and I was so blessed that my “Rush Crush” went over to the Kappa house to find my Mother and explained to her and my sister that I was not a Kappa. So much emotion and I will tell you, my Pi Phi connections have served me well. Do I regret not pledging Kappa? Nope. I was a double legacy and I know in my gut I made the right decision.
