Arizona State University - ASU Overview

  About Greek Life at ASU

One of the largest public universities in the country, ASU enrolls well over 70,000 students on its Tempe campus alone, and the Greek system here reflects that scale. There are dozens of active fraternities and sororities spread across multiple governing councils, making this one of the bigger Greek communities in the Southwest.

The main councils are IFC and Panhellenic, which cover the majority of the traditional fraternities and sororities. You'll find well-known nationals here like Sigma Chi, Kappa Sigma, Pi Kappa Alpha, and Phi Gamma Delta on the fraternity side, and chapters like Chi Omega, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Alpha Phi, and Pi Beta Phi among the sororities. Beyond IFC and Panhellenic, ASU also has an active NPHC presence through historically Black fraternities and sororities like Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Delta Sigma Theta, and Sigma Gamma Rho. The Multicultural Greek Council adds another layer with organizations like Gamma Zeta Alpha, Kappa Delta Chi, Lambda Theta Alpha, and others that serve Latino, Asian, and multicultural student populations.

Formal recruitment for IFC chapters typically happens in the fall, with Panhellenic formal recruitment running on a structured, multi-round format that can feel pretty intense at a school this size. A lot of chapters also do continuous open bidding throughout the year, so fall isn't your only shot.

Housing varies. Some of the larger IFC and Panhellenic chapters have houses either on or near campus, but not every chapter has a dedicated chapter house the way you'd see at a more traditional residential Greek Row school. The social scene is still active regardless — formals, philanthropy events, intramurals, and collaborations between chapters are a regular part of the calendar.

Given how large ASU is, Greek life is genuinely prominent but it's not the only social infrastructure on campus. It's a significant part of the scene, especially in Tempe, without being the default experience for every student. The sheer number of organizations across IFC, Panhellenic, NPHC, and MGC means the Greek community here covers a lot of ground.
