Northeastern is a co-op-focused research university in Boston's Fenway neighborhood, and the Greek system there reflects the school's practical, career-minded student culture. It's not a school where Greek life dominates the social scene the way it might at a large state school in the South, but there's a solid and active community here across multiple councils.

The IFC oversees the fraternities, Panhellenic covers the NPC sororities, and there's also a meaningful NPHC and Multicultural Greek Council presence on campus. Organizations like Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Delta Sigma Theta, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Omega Psi Phi, and Iota Phi Theta are part of the NPHC community, while MGC chapters like Lambda Phi Epsilon and Sigma Beta Rho round out the multicultural side. All told, there are quite a few active chapters between fraternities and sororities, which gives the system a decent amount of range.

One thing to know about NEU specifically: co-op cycles mean students are constantly rotating in and out of campus life, which affects how chapters recruit and maintain membership. Recruitment happens through both formal and informal processes depending on the council. IFC typically does informal recruitment, while Panhellenic runs a more structured formal recruitment process in the fall.

Housing is a different situation here than at schools with a traditional Greek Row. Most chapters don't have dedicated houses — Boston real estate makes that pretty rare — so a lot of chapter activity happens through hosted events, rented spaces, and campus facilities. That shifts the culture somewhat; it's more about the people and programming than about a house-based social scene.

Philanthropy and community service are a consistent part of chapter life across councils, and many organizations tie their events into the broader Boston community. The school's urban setting gives chapters easy access to service opportunities throughout the city, and that tends to be a real part of how chapters define themselves at NEU.
