Bucknell is a small liberal arts university in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania — a pretty rural setting where campus is essentially the town. That context matters a lot when you're trying to understand how Greek life fits in here. When there's not much else around, the social scene tends to concentrate, and at Bucknell, the fraternities and sororities are a central part of that.

The system is organized under IFC on the fraternity side and Panhellenic on the sorority side, with a handful of NPHC and multicultural Greek organizations rounding things out. You've got chapters like Sigma Chi, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Phi Gamma Delta, Lambda Chi Alpha, Chi Phi, Delta Upsilon, and Sigma Phi Epsilon for the guys, and on the women's side, organizations including Chi Omega, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta, Delta Gamma, Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Xi Delta, Alpha Delta Pi, Delta Zeta, Delta Sigma Theta, and Mu Sigma Upsilon. It's a solid cross-section of national organizations.

Recruitment at Bucknell follows a pretty traditional structure. Panhellenic runs formal recruitment in the fall with a structured round system, while IFC tends to operate on a more informal timeline. It's a smaller school, so the process feels more personal than it would at a large state university — you're likely to run into people you know pretty quickly.

Most of the fraternity chapters have houses on or near campus, which makes them natural social hubs on weekends. Sorority chapters typically don't have residential houses in the same way, which is pretty standard for Panhellenic chapters in Pennsylvania due to state housing laws. That said, sororities still have a strong presence on campus through events, philanthropy, and programming.

Philanthropy is taken seriously across chapters here — both IFC and Panhellenic organizations regularly host fundraisers and service events throughout the year. Given Bucknell's size, Greek members make up a significant portion of the student body, so the organizations carry real weight in campus culture, from student government to athletics to community events.
