1) Perhaps your mom is unaware of how much the recruitment process has changed since she went through, when cross cuts happened, and there was no quota plus, so girls who went to pref could still end up without a bid. Even though your sisters went through she may still not know how much more the process now favors a pnm getting a bid than it used to, and that if you get to pref and don't SIP there is no way you are not getting a bid. Tell her that 93% of all pnm's get a bid. 2) Maybe she's not discouraging you so much as trying to make sure you are being realistic about getting cut from your favorite houses and she needs convincing that you can handle it when that happens. Tell her you can handle it.
