I was definitely biased for/against certain sororities based on their reputations back where I'm from. Lots of really mean girls from my high school went DG or DDD at our state school and I didn't want to share letters with them. Meanwhile, one of my biggest role models from high school went Theta, so I really liked them and the idea of being sisters with her. I also had a friend whose mother jokingly told her not to join a sorority that wasn't "smart enough" to have three letters. Lo and behold she ended up in a house with only two letters in its name and her mom (again, jokingly) gave her hell for it.
