OP if you're wealthy in your home area then you'll be considered wealthy here and vise versa. But back to law firms, law firms have billable hour requirements and the NYC ones usually have significantly higher minimums than the Birmingham ones (Birmingham partners still work hard and more than a 9-5 though).Profits per partner are also public info for top firms and are a criteria of how they're ranked. Its like knowing how much profit google made last year but law firms are owned by a known number of equity partners so its not hard to publish profits per partner
