Most new colonies spend extra time recruiting women on campus that are in leadership positions of other orgs but not in a sorority. Yes they do take some that drop from formal but a lot of new members in a new sorority will be stronger candidates who just never went through rush. And they typically bid all levels: freshman through seniors, so they can have a more well rounded group. As a sophomore or higher you will have a great opportunity to become a leader in the new chapter right away. And yes they will have tons of events and attend/compete in Greek activities. Unless SK does it differently than most, you will not have to go through formal recruitment next fall.
