It is certainly possible to walk in and make an impression without the big social media build up. If fact, this actually does happen every year in every house. It goes the other way too all the time; someone looks great until we meet her in person and then she's not at all what we expected. This is why we recruit in person and not just off social media or recs or word of mouth. You would never pick a house like that, would you? You want to actually meet people in person first, don't you? Try to relax.
