Once again speaking as someone who's experienced both: there are positives and negatives no matter what. Deferred rush generally lends itself to higher placement rates because the girls participating know they will fit in Greek life. You also get a wider range of girls participating because many girls were on the fence, showed up and saw how cool Greek life is, and then signed up. The major downsides: leadership was weak because exec positions ran by the calendar year, meaning if you went abroad in the spring you couldn't be on exec. We lost a lot of strong leaders because of that. Also, you can kiss the no contact period goodbye. How can you have a no contact period when actives are your RAs, your TAs, your group project members, fellow club members, teammates, study buddies? Answer: you can't. So dirty rushing was everywhere - more than here - and it really sucked.
