Honestly you wouldn't believe the amount of people on campus who rushed both fraternities and sororities, got bids, and ended up dropping because they couldn't afford it. I have a lot of friends who come from relatively wealthy homes and got bids from really nice houses but their parents literally wouldn't pay for it... I'm going to be honest, Greek life here is expensive, especially if you're already paying the full OOS tuition and you're on a budget. Greek life expenses are much more than just dues and the meal plan. You have to also think about the t-shirts, swap attire, big/little presents, covers for fundraisers/bars, etc. You also need to consider the fact that every single sorority here has different dues, ranging from roughly $3,000/semester to almost %6,000/semester. Also keep in mind that it's never guaranteed you will live in house, unless you're on the Exec Board. Overall, over the next few months really express your desire to join Greek life to your parents. Have a serious conversation and explain why Greek life is so important to you. If they still say no, then I mean it is what it is at that point. You can obviously try and pay for dues on your own, but it may be extremely hard to do so if you're not the most organized and driven person. As a girl, you'll still get into any frat parties, you'll still meet frat guys, you'll still make friends. Greek life isn't the end all be all. You may feel a little left out but your social calendar depends completely on you.
