Call them what you will - old row, top tier, very attractive, rich, connected - some houses are more competitive than others when it comes to getting a bid. Recommendations, unless from an extremely influential person, help in the early rounds get your credentials noticed. But if you lack "what it takes" to make the cuts in the competitive houses, the recommendations don't overcome any shortcomings. A low GPA will count against you particularly at the houses where grades are most important. See the Panhelenic grade report online. Some may take offense to the following, but it is true: if you have notable other traits these houses desire: Connections, wealth, and looks there may be a bid in your future. If that is not you, seriously ask why you want to be in these (competitive) houses, and keep an open mind. While there are girls who may get the dreaded call noting they have not received any bid, nearly all of 2500 girls who go through rush get a bid somewhere. This is particularly true of girls who are open to "all" houses. And despite allot of "hate" you may read here, all of the houses can offer a great experience to their members.
