And you think at Bama the alums are powerless? Not a chance. Tradition is everything at Alabama, and that's true for recruitment, too. Blacks now accepted at Alabama? We've been wanting to do that for years - yes, even the alums - but were terrified of how the fraternities would view us. Any sorority other than the Bama's Big Six would have been ostracized and ridiculed. But Alpha Gamma Delta - one of the six, the sorority of Mary Harmon Bryant and her descendents - went first, and it cleared the way for the rest of us. Thank you, Alpha Gamma Delta! But alumnae are still a big part of every chapter's recruitment team.
