Oh, honey. You need to get here as soon as you can because you need us more than we need you. First, it is NOT "too goodie goodie" to be polite and write a letter of regret when you cannot attend a party. If you do not do this, or at least respond by a call or return an RSVP card, there are going to be a LOT of mothers of the bride who will be totally PO'd with you when you fail to tell her you won't be attending her daughter's reception which is costing mama and papa $128.00 a plate. Second, it is NOT "too goodie goodie" to write a thank-you note either. Get here and we will teach you some decent manners. Third, hundreds of girls come to Alabama every year with no sorority connections. Almost all of them get bids. However, they prepare. They get good to excellent grades and get involved in a few extracurricular activities. They groom themselves - nothing fancy, just neat and clean, hair combed. They have a nice (do NOT read that as expensive) wardrobe for recruitment. They get recommendations for as many sororities as they can. They smile, say thank you and please. And they get bids! A little over 90% of the girls who don't quit early get bids. So relax and start asking everyone you know if they are a sorority alumna or know one, and get your bids. Get your mom to ask her friends. Get your dad to ask his friends. Ask your teachers, even back to kindergarten. You, too, can become a Southern sorority girl!
