Copy and paste from previous post: There are two articles from a long time ago that mention the “Core 4.” One is from 1976 and describes a woman’s rush experience in 1962. It’s called Sisterhood is Powerful. The article that’s more often mentioned as the origin of the term is a Indiana Daily Student piece called That Certain Look also from 1976. The Core 4 has existed here for as long as anyone can remember really. It’s not a new term people made up on Greekrank. These houses being called the “top” houses and being referred to as the Core 4 very rarely change. Exceptions such as Tri Delt being kicked off and now GPhi is now in. Ranks at IU are nowhere near as fluid as at other schools. The Big 6 on the other hand is more recent and was first mentioned in a 1985 IDS publication called The Greek Way. While the Big 6 is more volatile, it still has its roots engrained in IU Greeklife. These terms have gone away for a while since the internet has become more popular than print publications, but they are definitely still valid. Do I think that these top houses are the only good houses on campus? No. But they will always hold a stronger reputation than those who aren't in the C4 and B6.
