spring tea attire

by: Excited PNM

UA's The Greek chic suggests the type dress to wear during recruitment days, but what is recommended for spring teas? Is an evening party more formal than one in the afternoon?
Any suggestions from actives who went in the past??? Do's and don'ts??

Easter is before spring teas. Can white dresses and shoes be worn,? I always follow the rule of no white till Easter and none after Labor Day.

white's technically okay. it will be after Easter and officially spring at that point, so i'm sure some girls will wear it. personally, I'd wait till closer to time when you can check the weather, though. if it gets cold again in bama by then (which DOES happen), you're going to freeze your ass off in a white, summery dress

From one pnm to another, my older sister is in a sorority at UA and she told me to wear dresses then take both sandals and wedges and switch out between those for whatever seems best for that party

Let me just say that your choices for spring tea dress could affect your chances at some older row houses. those houses tend to be a little judgmental on fashion choices (and ability to make those good choices) and if you are not dressing in a certain way they consider cute and stylish, then you have problems. for those, I would not risk jeans. I say "risk" because there will be in-state star pnms that may do jeans but it just wont affect them. they are golden even if they show up in a 1970s pant suit reeking of Chablis. the actives are going to accept whatever they wear and think that it might be them (the active) that is not aware of the latest fashion... other (new row) houses are not so quick to make those snap judgments. This is all mostly a post for oos girls to read.

Stop with the old row:new row. This was great advice until you went on the mom rant with the jumpsuit example. Smh

I suggest wearing a cute chiffon dress or trendy spring outfit. The dress code is similar to the first round of recruitment!

Going to teas is fun and gives you a glimpse into greek life. BUT please don't stress over old row / new row. The truth is that old row is the most desirable for girls who want to live in Alabama all their lives and who come from old money. For everyone else, IT DOESN'T MATTER!

Why would I say such heresy? Because its true! If you get a bid to an old row house and you're from Chicago, are you going to be happy? Probably not. I'm sorry to say that but the girls in your pledge class will have known each other since forever. Many of them will be 3rd or 4th generation and will generally have gone to private school together and camp together. They will have their debutante seasons together.

You will be left out. Not intentionally, but you will be left out because their lives are so intertwined that there is no way you can fit in. You may try and you may have some friends, but not the kind of friends you'd have in another house where there would be girls interested in reaching out to get to know you.

So, think about it. Go old row for the prestige, but then when you move back home you'll find that Alabama prestige sororities are not that prestigious anywhere else. Or go new row and find friends for life and a sorority to be proud of.

i'm in an old row house, from out of state, and while we can wear dresses we were told we could also wear white or pastel jeans to spring teas. i wouldn't wear denim jeans, but any type of cute spring outfit really will be fine. promise.

It really just depends on the house because we're allowed to wear jeans (trendy ones, like bells) during my house's party. You never know though so you can't go wrong with a cute dress! Take a look at some ttown boutique instagrams to see what's in here
